3.14 was adopted by Alpha Zooter following a semester of service in the local High School Science lab, during which time he proved himself to be the smartest rat in class. He was given his name by Alpha, in homage to the mathematical constant***.
Following the vermins' transformation into cyberactive creatures, 3.14 was accepted as leader of the pack in recognition of his intelligence, fairness, and stay-cool attitude.
* Since becoming cyber-active, the rats' aging process has been slowed to approximately 1/550th of normal Earth time.
